2017-08-12

WILMINGTON, NC, August 12, 2017 — Many people are aware of the fact that the mental health crisis, one in which the mentally ill end up incarcerated as criminals, has reached epic proportions. On the other hand, many people are not. Before real solutions can be developed, awareness of the problem must increase. The jail and prison systems are filled with mentally ill individuals who end up incarcerated, rather than being placed in mental health facilities where they belong. These types of cases have dramatically overloaded the system and have caused law enforcement to take drastic measures to overcome what can only be called a dismal failure of the current systems. News organizations, radio, television and newspapers nationwide have been running feature stories on a regular basis. Many states are introducing legislative changes that attempt to address the problem. But it’s not enough. Virginia Sollars believes there is a real...

On April 25, 2017, the Company revealed a data breach affecting its payment processing systems potentially affecting its customers and advised that customers “should closely monitor their payment card statements” for unauthorized charges and notify their bank if that occurred. The breach resulted in a class action lawsuit being filed against the Company by more than 100 financial institutions based on lost accounts, repayments and other expenses caused by Chipotle’s negligence in the breach, highlighting a 2015 decision by the Company to “not upgrade its terminals to EMV [chip card] technology, claiming that it would slow down customer lines” despite a prior breach that had cost the company approximately $4.3 million between 2004 and 2006. On July 19, 2017, it was announced that the Company received a federal subpoena relating to a reported norovirus outbreak at one of its Virginia locations that left hundreds sickened, which follows a string of similar incidents involving...

The complaint alleges that defendants during the Class Period made false and misleading statements and failed to disclose that: (1) CenturyLink’s policies allowed its employees to add services or lines to accounts without customer permission, resulting in millions of dollars in unauthorized charges to CenturyLink customers; (2) accordingly, CenturyLink’s revenues were the product of illicit conduct and unsustainable; (3) the foregoing illicit conduct was likely to subject CenturyLink to heightened regulatory scrutiny; and (4) as a result, CenturyLink’s public statements were materially false and misleading at all relevant times. On June 16, 2017, Bloomberg reported that a lawsuit had been filed by former CenturyLink employee Heidi Heiser alleging that Heiser was fired days after notifying Chief Executive Officer Glen Post of CenturyLink’s high-pressure sales culture that left customers paying millions of dollars for accounts they didn’t request. Following this...
